I'm obviously very pro=emergency services myself, having worked in the profession as a soldier, police officer, and medic (although only briefly as the last).
I will say that American soldiers and police services attract more sadistic, brutal types than perhaps other countries' forces do, and I understand why people of color and poor people fear and mistrust the police.
I also have taken medications for depression and anxiety, and can put myself in the place of a person who could conceivably do things for which I would not be held legally responsible. It's not likely, but it could happen. But if it did, and I hurt someone, there is no way I would be happy about it later.
